Open Ocean provides a fully integrated, intelligence-based, approach for shipowners facing transit areas requiring enhanced security measures. Risk laden areas are increasing, threatening the safety of crew, vessels and cargoes. Backed by national security and technology company, Chenega Corporation, Open Ocean helps mitigate this risk by offering a multifaceted, intelligence-led logistics and operations program which allows the customer to choose from a range of services to meet their transit requirements. Ultimately, this allows the ship operator to get back to their core business of delivering products safely and in a timely fashion.

Training - OO6

Provides security training and includes a complete range of International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code courses for Company Security Officer (CSO) and Ship Security Officer (SSO).

The recently agreed International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) Manila Amendments will require all mercantile seagoing people – irrespective of trade - to complete a one day security course, and Open Ocean can provide this either on board or ashore.

Training and refresher courses are also available in specialist security skills such as the use of weapons afloat, patrol and interdiction craft fighting and many others.

Instructors

All Open Ocean instructors are qualified and certificated by the United Kingdom Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK MCA) and courses are approved, in the case of the ISPS Code by UK MCA and the Department for Transport (DfT). The instructors have all worked extensively at the maritime security coal face in the armed forces and commercially. Training Certification details are as follows:

The product

  • Company Security Officer: Compliant with UK Merchant Navy Training Board requirements certificate No 0093 authorised by UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency, issued 2009
  • Ship Security Officer: UK Merchant Navy Training Board compliant certificate No 00929 issued by UK MCA in 2008
  • Port Facility Security Officer (ISPS Code 2003): UK National Maritime Security Programme issued by UK Department of Transport, re-issued 2011

Mentoring

Success in the fight against piracy is as much a question of self-confidence in the preparations that an individual crew member has made as any other factor.

Chief amongst the competencies required in Open Ocean security guards the ability to inspire confidence in those they are protecting as well as their ability to fit seamlessly into a ship's crew. These are all part of the attributes which make up a true maritime security professional.

Company Awareness Training

Open Ocean can provide Company Awareness Training for CSOs, Shipping Directors and Operations Teams and their managers to ensure that charterers, owners and others are aware of the latest regulations, current threats and countermeasures. It also provides managers with a better understanding of cost savings that can be achieved through good security planning.

Courses can be tailored to fit specific company needs and availability of personnel.
